It's the right of every Englishman to have his country robbed blind by the banks

You can see why, after 50 years of putting up with Europe, this was finally the issue where we couldn't take any more. Because the bastards were insisting we impose a vague regulation or two on our bankers and speculators, those brave and tireless souls who invest round the clock to keep us safe with not a thought for themselves. Well, the French had the audacity to suggest someone kept an eye on them from time to time. Haven't bankers suffered enough?

So, just like in 1940, we stand alone, and hopefully at every bus stop, you'll hear the plucky British saying: "Blooming Krauts, who do they think they are telling us our bankers aren't allowed to rob us blind? That's the right of every Englishman, to have his country robbed blind by bankers. Now Frau Merkel wants to make them only rob me nine-tenths blind until they get themselves straight. Well, we fought off the Luftwaffe, so we'll see off this lot an' all."

Soon we'll hear heartwarming stories of national pride, with old-age pensioners on the regional news saying: "I had £20 put by for a new hearing aid, but instead I've sent it off to Goldman Sachs to let them know I, for one, am willing to carry on getting fleeced by them, whether the Frogs say I can or not." And charming letters from children will be published, saying: "I wanted to stop those Europeans make nasty rules for our banks, so I sold my rabbit to the butcher and gave the money to Fred Goodwin. It might not be much, but it's all I've got".

There are many reasons to be suspicious of the European Union, but it seems the ones we're supposed to be annoyed about are when they pass rules stopping employers from making people work longer hours than anywhere else, or insisting on extra holidays.

And the City of London wasn't necessarily the most loved institution, so it's taken quite an effort for the Government to present an attempt to tax them slightly as a similar act to Hitler's invasion of Poland. So maybe other unpopular groups ought to try a similar strategy. Paedophiles should issue a statement saying: "Would you believe what they're suggesting in Strasbourg? They want a law regulating our porn sites across the whole European Union." Then the Daily Mail will scream that we simply can't tolerate this unconstitutional bullying.

And anyone caught going berserk in a public building with an axe can spend all week debating whether a European axe law would destroy our sovereignty and what the Hungarians were offering and whether we're isolated outside the Euro-lunatic zone, and, with a bit of luck, they'll have half the country in a state of confusion and the other half screaming, "At last! An axe murderer prepared to defend Britain!", while it's gently forgotten that decapitation shouldn't, on the whole, really be celebrated at all.

The UK's former ambassador to Kabul has slammed the British army commanders in Afghanistan, accusing them of sacrificing an effective war strategy to cost-cutting – a revelation that RT’s military analyst Evgeny Khrushchev says outshines WikiLeaks.

"Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles said he had been told by the former head of the Army, General Sir Richard Dannatt, that if he did not re-deploy battlegroups coming free from Iraq he would lose them in a future defence review."

"In a written memorandum to the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, he said the Afghan campaign had seen 'unprecedented' resources diverted to the Army, and that most soldiers appeared to be 'enjoying' it."

Predictably, Dannatt denied the allegation to which Cowper-Coles replied,'He is lying, I am afraid. I can recall him saying it, sitting in his office in the Ministry of Defence.'

Another reason given was that it was a face-saving exercise.

"Sir Sherard said British commanders also saw the mission in Afghanistan as an opportunity to redeem their reputation in the eyes of the Americans after the criticisms of their performance in Basra."

Seeds of Revolution?

The video below was filmed for the Coalition of Resistance at the Youth, Students and Educational Workshop in Camden, London, UK last November. It highlights a 15-year-old speaker who shares his experiences following the student demonstrations against tuition fee increases.

Listening to him, it is clear that the experience of a mass demonstration has given this youth a sense of political militancy which he otherwise might have missed out on. While demonstrations are largely ignored by our ruling elites and suitably vilified by their media whores they do provide a sense of solidarity and common purpose which the otherwise alienated individual might never experience. And the real, repressive face of the state is seen by all to raise its ugly head in the violent methods of the Police who, after all, are only doing the dirty work of the politicians who rubber-stamp their methods.

Here is a young student who has woken up to the nasty realities of the world we live in. He is one of many others who underwent a similar experience during those recent demos. As the swingeing spending cuts being implemented by Britain's reactionary Coalition government hit its people we must hope that the students' reaction heralded just the beginning of many more similar and greater demonstrations against the state and the capitalist system. For in doing so, the people of Britain would be joining to bring about a far greater revolution, already beginning to take place in other parts of Europe and the World.

Biden: "We are not leaving in 2014"

Recent utterances by US Vice-President, Joe Biden, confirm that US occupation forces in Afghanistan have no intention of leaving in three years' time.

The release of large amounts of classified documents has shown how eager the administration is to tell the American public the exact opposite of what they are telling one another. It seems that the classification system isn’t even necessary for this, however, as Vice President Biden, fresh off of pledging to the American people that the US would be totally out of Afghanistan “come hell or high water, by 2014” has now told a completely different story to Afghan officials.

Biden was in Kabul last Tuesday when he promised Karzai a lasting American commitment to the country well beyond 2014, when NATO forces are scheduled to turn over security of the nation to Afghan forces.

So despite any pretence to their public by US or UK politicians it looks like the Evil Empire sees its current occupation of Afghanistan (as well as Iraq) as part of its long-term geopolitical strategy of global 'full spectrum dominance'.

We have already seen how NATO, the cat's-paw of US neo-colonialist foreign policy, was pulled into helping police a military occupation thousands of miles away from the north Atlantic, causing that organization to morph into a global military force as NATO International. Some of us remember the empty promise made by NATO, during the days of the Cold War, that when the Warsaw Pact dissolved itself so would NATO. Far from dissolving itself NATO has grown into a global military force.

Currently there are some 150,000 NATO troops, predominantly from the United States, and NATO estimates that there are 25,000 Taliban forces in the country, which is the exact same estimate they made a year ago. Despite claims of “progress” in the war, violence is still on the rise across the nation.

And while Asia is still the primary focus of attention the US is increasingly looking to Africa as the next big source of energy supplies necessary for its interests. More of that anon...

Anonymous, WikiLeaks and The Matrix Generation

Throughout history, each new generation has questioned and rebelled against what had come before. Generations X and Y grew up with the dot-com bubble and ubiquitous digital technology. This group of teens and young adults today has largely been viewed as tamed, apathetic, and glued to their screens. Yet, now the little known underground subculture of hackers that was brought to worldwide attention by WikiLeaks seems to call for a shift in this view. Here arose a pocket of passionate activists united through sharing ideas beyond cultural and geopolitical boundaries in the spirit of the open source principles. This has brought fire to a public contaminated by cynicism. Perhaps this generation is following the age-old tradition of youthful idealism rebelling against the inequities of the established order after all.

Each age has had a literary imagination that guided it. There was the Tolkien masterpiece, Lord of the Rings and then Star Trek. Now, The Matrix has become a central story of this generation. What is emerging now is the Matrix Generation.

Afghanistan: from Occupation to Permanent Occupation?

One has to ask why the US keeps shifting its goal-posts for troops withdrawal. While the spin put out to the public is that US/NATO still hopes to win this so-called war on terror the reality is that the presence of US/NATO in Afghanistan has geopolitical motives and, as such, is an Occupation and not a war. The fake War on Terror, launched after the 911 conspiracy, was simply the ideological rationale fabricated by the warmongers to hide their naked aggression in what is nothing more than 21st Century colonialism or Full Spectrum Dominance.

The US has over 700 military bases across the world.

It was never a question of whether the Evil Empire would 'win' in Afghanistan but simply one of how it could enter that country and establish its bases for a permanent military presence. The fake war on the Al Qaeda bogeyman gave them that excuse. And unless US/NATO is hammered into submission by the Afghan resistance we can expect to see them in that country for a very long time.

Meantime, our ruling elite will continue to shed crocodile tears over the blood sacrifice of countless innocent Afghan lives and those of our young men and women as they become cannon-fodder in the interests of the US Military-Industrial-Political Complex and business corporations. Wikileaks and the New Global Gestapo

The US Department of Justice has issued a subpeona against Twitter demanding customer account details of Julian Assange, Bradley Manning, Rop Gongrijp, and Icelandic MP, Birgitta Jonsdottir.

As well as this the subpoena goes onto demand all the IP addresses of the 670,000 people worldwide who connected to the Wikileaks account.

Iceland's Foreign Minister, Oessur Skarphedinsson, said it was not acceptable that US authorities had demanded the information.

"According to the documents that I have seen, an Icelandic parliamentarian is being investigated in a criminal case in the United States for no reason at all," Skarphedinsson
told Icelandic public radio RUV.

"It is intolerable that an elected representative is being treated like that," he said.

Birgitta Jonsdottir said that "(The) USA government wants to know about all my tweets and more since 1 November 2009. Do they realize I am a member of parliament in Iceland?"

Jonsdottir helped release a video that showed the killing of innocent Iraqi civilians. "I think I am being given a message, almost like someone breathing in a phone," she said.

The same could be said by the 670,000 other individuals that the US government is now seeking to terrorize through the obtaining of their IPs. What should we expect next? Targeted hacking by the CIA, mass arrests or a class action?

The Evil Empire, Drugs and Racism

The Anglo-American Empire's 'War on Drugs' is as credible as its 'War on Terror'. Both are a fake of the kind George Orwell warned us about. Once the pretend 'Red Menace' vanished into thin air with the demise of the Soviet Union, the Anglo-American axis was left with no bogeyman with which to frighten and bully its populations into doing as they were told, never mind a huge loss of their civil liberties on both sides of the Atlantic.

The carefully-fabricated 911 was the moment when that spurious 'War on Terror' was launched, the moment when both Bush II and his English sidekick, Tony Blair, steered their ships-of-state into the depths of totalitarianism, war criminality and government-sponsored evil. Just as the 'War on Terror' permitted the Anglo-American axis to perpetrate evil in the form of genocide, the 'War on Drugs' permits its secret services to profit hugely from the black market on drugs. Now we hear that "85% of all drugs produced in Afghanistan are shipped out by US aircraft." Why doesn't this surprise us?

After what the Axis has been responsible for in its respective pasts (including the British-sponsored opium trade in the nineteenth century) it should not surprise us that the behaviour of our rulers has really not changed. All that has changed is the spin and packaging required to convince us proles that we really do live in democracies where governments operate in our interests rather than their own.

The 'War on Terror' was quite cleverly devised, where the enemy was identified as both non-white and an historic enemy of the Christian west, Islam. So not only could the proles identify an historic non-white enemy but exercise a deep-seated racism that anyone who is not white is, by definition, not only inferior but shifty and dangerous. The whole thing was devised on shock and awe with the collapse of the Twin Towers and the emotional hype of Islamic 'terrorism' that followed and which continues to this day.

This writer has consistently argued that the much-vaunted 'special relationship' between Britain and the US is only a special relationship insofar as the interests of Anglo-American capital are concerned and where British governments continue to hang onto Uncle Sam's coat-tails for the military power it allows them to associate with.

Without it, Britain would stand exposed as a post-imperial nation, disunited and in demise. And the price required of us all by our ruling elite to continue the pretence is paid daily in the blood of our young men and women who are sent out to die fighting the Axis' military adventures and others who pay the price in becoming victims of the Empire's drugs black-market.

An unpublished letter to the Guardian on where all the money has gone:

"Each time I turn on the BBC I hear that difficult decisions have to be made, by whoever is elected. This comes down to: Do we want to give all our money to pay for the bankers this year or would we rather wait a bit? In all this debate no one has asked the obvious questions of how much wealth there is in the country, and who is best able to pay.

The focus groups which we conduct, light up when such issues are raised, but heaven forbid that politicians should be asked about such indelicate topics. The total UK wealth is £ 9 thousand billion, the top 20% own between 5 and 6 thousand billion of this, nearly all in property and pensions.*

Remember in a single year the denizens of the city paid themselves £21 billion in bonus payments and now we know where these went. The deficit is a mere £150 billion or thereabouts. But instead of discussing who could pay without missing it too much, public debate is constrained to issues like vat rises, which would hurt the poorest, who have no wealth, only debts.

We are in a global emergency, one that is marked by an insoluble economic crisis, runaway climate change and the failure of political systems to meet the needs of ordinary people. That is why we are publishing this draft Manifesto of Revolutionary Solutions.

The crises are interconnected. Each feeds the others, reinforcing and deepening the problems facing humanity. Nowhere was this more harshly demonstrated than at the Copenhagen conference in December 2009. World political leaders could not even agree on the smallest of cuts in levels of carbon emissions responsible for global warming.

While they summoned up the will to bail out the banks in order to save capitalism from collapse, the same leaders were unwilling to put the interests of ordinary people first. The message was clear: humanity, you are on your own because your political leaders are simply the messengers of powerful corporate and financial interests.

The unsustainable, profit-driven growth of the last 30 years – the period of corporate-driven, free-market globalisation – is the cause of the sharp rise in greenhouse gases that accelerated climate change. Ever greater levels of debt that financed the expansion lay behind the meltdown of the financial system and the onset of a new Depression.

No single crisis can be solved in isolation. Drastic cuts in overall carbon emissions cannot be achieved within the capitalist model of production. It is equally unimaginable that the political system will yield to pressure because the state is inextricably linked to maintaining capitalism.

Bold, ground-breaking ideas are being discussed around the world that offer alternatives to global warming, economic and financial chaos, global poverty and lack of shelter. They challenge political systems that lack credibility, democracy and legitimacy as well as oppose renewed dangers of international war.

Placed alongside each other to form a coherent whole, such ideas and proposals assume a revolutionary character for the stark reason that they cannot be carried into practice within the present socio-political framework.

So the Manifesto starts from a reality that points to revolutionary change to break the impasse that confronts humanity in every country. Our goal is to create a new, vibrant democracy that places real power in the hands of ordinary women and men so that pressing problems can be dealt with in a collective, co-operative way.

New political organisations will have to be built internationally to open this new chapter in history.They will have a unique opportunity to learn from history, from the unfinished struggles for democracy, self-determination, human rights, against Stalinism, for climate justice and for socialism. They will have to articulate the needs and aspirations of the powerless majority in creative and new ways.

In Britain, the state itself is heading towards bankruptcy, loaded down with mountainous levels of debt by the New Labour government in a futile bid to rescue the banks. The levels of cuts in public spending needed to “balance the books” are so draconian that they will destabilise society and effectively wreck free health care, education, social support, benefits and pensions.

This points to a major political crisis in Britain after the forthcoming General Election, whatever the outcome, and with it, a potential breaking point for bourgeois parliamentary democracy. The question of power – who rules Britain for what purpose – will become the most significant of issues.

This Manifesto does not seek your vote – in fact, there is a strong case for withholding your vote at the general election – but rather your commitment and support. Shape the future by taking part in the launch of A World to Win as an international organisation in spring 2010.

As I write the amount of aid and the speed in which it has been delivered to Haiti must be accredited to the Cubans while the Americans play a merciless game of delay. In the mainstream media's silence over the generous role being played by Cuba we see how the MSM remains in the stranglehold of US influence.

On Wednesday morning, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla received his counterpart from the Republic of Suriname, Lygia Louise Irene Kraag-Keteldijk, who is on an official visit to our country.

As part of official talks between the two ministers, Rodríguez gave a detailed explanation of the situation of Cuban cooperation workers in the sister Republic of Haiti after the terrible earthquake that occurred on Tuesday.

In that context, he clarified that there are currently "403 Cuban cooperative personnel, 334 of whom are working in the health sector as doctors and paramedics," in the devastated country. He said they had been able to confirm the status of all those working "within the city of Port-au-Prince. Only two of them received very slight injuries, and the others have confirmed that they are all right."

"We are verifying the situation and gathering complete information about cooperative workers in other parts of the country. We have been able to locate the majority of them and they are fine," he assured.

The minister added that victims have been receiving medical attention from the Cuban brigade since the earthquake struck. He noted that "they are now working in two campaign hospitals in our medical personnel’s accommodation facilities."

He said that plans are underway to more emergency aid to the sister Caribbean nation, consisting of "a quantity of medicine and health materials. An additional number of doctors are to travel there."

"Our ambassador and other compañeros working in Port-au-Prince spent the entire night and early morning touring the city to contact our compatriots there because communication lines have collapsed. Equally, "the team from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working tirelessly to coordinate the response from all of our institutions."

The Cuban foreign affairs minister reiterated Cuba’s disposition to participate in any CARICOM effort. "In this context we are in contact with the CARICOM mission and we will certainly work together there to provide assistance to the Haitian people."

Joining the Dots

Those of us who have recognised and followed such subjects as Peak Oil, Environment and Climate Change, Economic Collapse and the modern day 'Great Game' of Rudyard Kipling being played out in Central Asia and other locations, understand that a number of synergising crises are facing our species. It is becoming clear to us that these aspects of our current global political climate are connected on many levels.

We can observe, for instance, the annually diminishing forecasts of the International Energy Agency on Oil Reserves and estimates for the date of 'Peak' coupled with the recent revelations by IEA 'Whistleblowers', and join the dots between this real and immediate crisis in the modern world's main source of energy and the series of wars being enacted in those parts of the world in which the Pentagon, with the help of its dutiful allies is pursuing its ambition of 'Full Spectrum Dominance'. The disputed terrains of all these wars happen to coincide with the world's remaining major hydrocarbon reserves, their vital energy transit corridors or other associated strategic locations.

If we are prepared to look a little deeper we can also observe the daily symptoms of such Sphere-of-Influence Realpolitik. When we see reports of 'Al Qaeda' members 'infiltrating' Police Training programs in Afghanistan and shooting dead British soldiers, coupled with 'discoveries' of passports linked to '9/11 suspects' on the borders of Pakistan, we can connect this to the 'Lone Gunman' shooting at Fort Hood in the US with its subsequent propaganda onslaught of speculative 'Al Qaeda' and '9/11' connection narrative. Meanwhile, initial reporting of as many as 3 gunmen disappears down Orwell's 'Memory Hole', never again to raise its voice without accompanying accusations of 'Conspiracy Theory'.

To those who are schooled in picking up the tell-tale signs of such 'False-Flag' Covert Operations and 'PsyOps', the similarities to previous events, with their ubiquitous media-orgies of instant "evidence"' are very obvious. Not so, it seems to the mainstream left however, who not only refuse to make the unavoidably painful emotional transformation required to draw back this curtain, but often actively attack those who do choose to attempt to open the Pandora's Box behind it.

This is the 'Deep Politics' studied in depth by Professor Peter Dale Scott, which manifests as the daily ongoing relationship between governments and governmental agencies with the forces of crime and violence to which they are ostensibly opposed. This is part of the Realpolitik by which our planet is being controlled and its population manipulated, by the various factions of Elites, who may be rivals, but who all control a stake in this 'Grand Chessboard' discussed by Zbigniew Brzezinski and who employ the same basic methods to herd the public in favour of vested interests.

US President Eisenhower warned of the dangers of the increase in influence of this Elite which he called "The Military Industrial Complex". A more accurate title in my view would be "Military/Banking/Industrial Complex", as it is clear that Wall Street, the CIA/Pentagon and the 'Defence' Contractors are deeply intertwined.

It is in this context that we can analyse the policy of the major powers, especially the United States, of deliberately creating purported enemies which are simplified into easy soundbites - 'Al Qaeda', 'Taliban' etc. with little in depth analysis ever offered. Periodically, when the artificially generated public fear and concern over these alleged entities begins to fade, another 'attack' - supposedly orchestrated by these entities - conveniently occurs to remind us exactly 'why' we're fighting and who the supposed 'enemy' is. The real perpetrators, who we should suspect are not the officially declared bogey-men, cynically rely on the habit of 'Groupthink' among, not only the general public, but the Media figures that most of them rely on for their orthodox 'world view'. These Media representatives are unwilling or unable to recognise that such concepts as Deep Politics and invented enemies even exist, much less attempt to analyse them.

As I write, the Stock Market is again falling on the News that Dubai is likely to default on its debts. This was predictable. The 'Bull' market of the last few months is entirely based on the same flawed assumptions and speculative gambling as the financial markets always were, and this latest artificial bubble needed only a single catalyst to burst it. Who can tell if there will be a 'recovery'? Dubai, one of the Arab Emirate Kingdoms bordering Saudi Arabia whose wealth was founded on the regions vast oil reserves has lived well beyond its means. During last years financial crash, the over-hyped property market imploded in Dubai, causing the mass-layoff of thousands of immigrant workers involved in the property speculation and construction industries. There were reports of thousands of SUVs and other vehicles abandoned at the airport by transient workers fleeing back to their home countries. Dot Joiners could see this as one of many clues.

The Dots are there to be Joined ever more increasingly in the mainstream media, if we can decode the bland language and read between the lines of the established orthodoxy. Addicted and subservient to this current dying paradigm themselves, Establishment figures such as mainstream TV commentators, politicians and journalists cannot be relied upon to inform the public of the coming collapse of our capitalist 'civilisation'. What was Sting doing in Uzbekistan?

Ex-ambassador for the UK and whistleblower, Craig Murray, recently wrote a piece on his blog exposing the musician Sting for having played a 'charity concert' in Tashkent alongside the Uzbek dictator's daughter, Gulnara Karimova, "for some of the 'Charities' which have been set up in the past three years as the regime seeks to burnish her image to take over from her dissident massacring father."

Sting (Gordon Sumner) is known for having founded The Rainforest Foundation in 1989 along with his wife, Trudie Styler.

So "the greatest irony of the arch tosser Sumner's involvement is that the Uzbek government not only tortures thousands every year, has ten thousand political prisoners and massacres demonstrators. It is also responsible for one of the world's greatest environmental disasters - the disappearance of the Aral Sea, and the huge toxicity of the remnant and of the blown seabed dust."

Murray goes onto ask the question, "[d]id it not occur to Sting to wonder just where his glamorous hostess gets her billions from? Karimov and his daughter have for decades resisted every attempt to liberalise and diversify Uzbekistan's agriculture. The slaves pick [cotton] for them. And for Sting, apparently."

How is it possible that Sting would have accepted playing a gig in a country known throughout the world for being run by a barbaric dictator such as Karimov? It is inconceivable that he would not have known.

"The arsehole Sumner may not have noticed, but in the last three years even Wal-Mart, Marks and Spencers and Tesco have put a total ban on Uzbek cotton in all the clothing they sell."

Was he that short of cash to stoop so low or did something else take him to Tashkent? Back in the 'seventies, Sumner helped to co-found a rock group called The Police with Stewart Copeland who became the drummer. They called the group The Police because Copeland's father worked for the CIA and his mother for British intelligence.

War and Lies - Governments Lie, We Die

A look at the lies and propaganda used to start and maintain wars. From WWI up to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, soldiers have been duped into believing they are fighting for a "good" cause. Yet, as the wars have all been based on lies, all soldiers who have died have died needlessly. With all the media pontificating about 'vetting procedures' and 'security', is there any analysis of the likely fact that this incident is a symptom of how the Afghans in general feel about our presence there? The BBC's report described the alleged attacker - an Afghan Policeman the British Forces were training, as an individual who had gone "Rogue". An odd description to make of an individual in his own country being trained as a collaborator of the occupation forces.

One thing must be made clear: occupying armies do not have any rights. They do not have the right to be safe from being killed by someone who they thought they had turned into a pet policeman to serve the interests of a US puppet government and they do not have the right to be called 'heroes'. They are paid enforcers for Imperialistic Aggression - there is nothing 'heroic' about our presence in Afghanistan.

The government and media would have us believe that the war we have started in this enormously ethnically diverse region is a black and white issue of good guys and bad guys: US/Nato Forces good, Taliban bad, Hamid Karzai and his armed forces & Police good, "al Qaeda" insurgents bad. The fact that we are propping up a puppet regime of some of the worst drug dealers and warlords in the region - every bit as unpleasant as the numerous factions of the Taliban - seems to be completely absent from media analysis, as is the salient fact that such a 'government' cannot possibly be described honestly as a 'democracy' - 'Dictatorship Lite" would be more appropriate.

The deaths themselves, and the subsequent funerals, all become the opposite of what they should be: a distorted, drawn out exercise in propaganda to further the war resulting in even more tragic deaths based on nothing but lies, instead of a motive for the media to honestly analyse this conflict and seek a withdrawal. The jingoistic baying for blood in the tabloid press will even further divide the population at home.

The idea that murdering Afghan tribesman and bombing villages, while trampling all over the rights and dignity of the indigenous people will reduce the threat of terrorism in the UK is absurd. The opposite is true. The longer we stay, the more the Afghan people will turn against us in body as well as in mind. It is no argument to say 'we need to stay to get the job done'. There is no 'job' - only the Hegemonic ambitions of the United States who seeks to control Central Asia and its important oil and gas reserves to fuel its continuing world power status and deny Russia and China those same resources.

Today, reports were coming in of the shooting dead of US soldiers in an army base on home soil by one Major Nidal Malik Hasan. What little has emerged indicates that this Muslim American of Middle Eastern origin, was suffering from racial abuse. Is it any wonder that such things happen when our soldiers are encouraged to dehumanise and kill muslims abroad? Is it any wonder that the victim of this abuse begins to see his 'fellow' soldiers as the enemy?

"Torture in Uzbekistan isn't unusual. It happens to several thousands of people every year ... The intelligence from these torture sessions was being received by the CIA and passed onto MI6 because MI6 and the CIA share all their intelligence."

"When people were being tortured they were being told to confess to membership of Al Qaeda. They were being told to confess to have been in training camps in Afghanistan and told to confess to have met Osama Bin Laden in person. And the CIA intelligence constantly echoed these themes. They spoke of Uzbeks having been in Al Qaeda, in training camps and meeting Osama Bin Laden. In fact we were now in 2002-2003 when we didn't know where Osama Bin Laden was and the way he managed to see thousands of Uzbeks every year it would have been easier to track him down I felt!"

"It wasn't hard to put two and two together and work out the fact that every political prisoner I knew of in Uzbekistan was tortured and the fact that we knew of what they were being forced to confess under this torture and the CIA material came up with the same, rather dodgy narrative. It wasn't hard to put two and two together and realise that the intelligence material was coming from torture."

"Before I did anything I wanted to make sure I was on safe ground so I asked my deputy to go to the American Embassy and say to them, 'My ambassador is worried because he thinks your intelligence is coming from torture.' She came back and reported to me the reply from the CIA head in the station at Tashkent [which] was, 'Yes, of course it's coming from torture, We don't see that as a problem in the context of the war on terror.'"

"I did see that as a problem, particularly when I discovered that the CIA were bringing in people, flying in people to Uzbekistan and handing them over to the Uzbek security services ... I falsely presumed that these people they were bringing in and handing over to the security services were Uzbeks who had been captured elsewhere and brought back to Uzbekistan. I did not realise that they were of many other nationalities being handed over to be tortured."

"But they were being tortured, I knew, [but] that Uzbekistan was a destination for the extraordinary rendition system from all over the world I really didn't quite realise at the time. We now know, following for example the Council of Europe's investigation that 90% of the aeroplanes that stopped at the famous secret prison in Poland had Tashkent as their next destination."

"I complained back to London. I said we're getting this evidence from torture. It's illegal, it's immoral and it's unreliable. It's vastly exaggerating the strength of Al Qaeda in Central Asia ... I got called back to London and I expected there to have a sensible talk about the merits and demerits of intelligence and how much evidence I had that it was obtained under torture. I was absolutely stunned, genuinely stunned --it changed my whole world-view in an instant-- to be told that London knew that it was coming from torture, that it wasn't illegal because our legal advisers thought that under the United Nations' convention against torture it is not illegal to obtain or use intelligence gained from torture as long as we didn't do the torture ourselves."

Murray's first-hand evidence clearly illustrates how Blair and the British government were complicit in Bush's brutal, fake war on terror.

Che: A Musical Tribute – Carlos Puebla, Jahmila, and Manu Chao

I meant to put out this post last Friday, October 9, the 42nd anniversary of the death of Che Guevara.

After Che’s death, Cuba’s most popular folk singer, Carlos Puebla, wrote a song, “Hasta Siempre, Comandante,” (Farewell Comandante) to honor him. It is a very beautiful and compelling song. Below are two versions: the first is sung by Carlos Puebla and includes several pictures of Che and the second is a rockin’ kickass version sung by a band called “Jahmila.”

In addition, last weekend in Havana, Manu Chao performed in tribute to Che. The third video shows the last 10 minutes of their concert.

Federalists welcome Irish Completion of Democratic Treaty Process

The Irish people have given their decisive backing to the Lisbon treaty. This vote does credit to all those political forces in Ireland which have had to combat, over many months, the lies and distortions about the European project peddled by nationalists and europhobes.

The vote means that Irish voices will continue to be influential in the politics of the EU. The common interest of all Europe will always have an Irishness about it.

Ireland has clearly and decisively added its weight to the building of a stronger, more effective and more democratic European Union.

Now all 27 countries have taken their own democratic decisions to back EU reform. No further delay can be tolerated in bringing the treaty into force as quickly and efficiently as possible. It would be the height of folly for Mr Vaclav Klaus to block the entry into force of the treaty. One does not expect the President of the Czech Republic to behave like a vexatious litigant.

The world waits while the European Union concludes its internal constitutional controversies. Lisbon in force will make the EU strong in world affairs and provide Europe’s states and citizens with good government of a federal character. Let’s get on with the job.

CIA: Afghanistan is Unwinnable

Six years ago, Michael Meacher MP, had his article, 'This War on Terrorism is Bogus', published in The Guardian. In it he argued convincingly that both military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq were made for geopolitical reasons ... Gas and Oil: "The overriding motivation for this political smokescreen is that the US and the UK are beginning to run out of secure hydrocarbon energy supplies."

Arguing that this was what the fake War on Terror was all about he ended by questioning the wisdom of British foreign policy to pursue the myth:

"The conclusion of all this analysis must surely be that the "global war on terrorism" has the hallmarks of a political myth propagated to pave the way for a wholly different agenda - the US goal of world hegemony, built around securing by force command over the oil supplies required to drive the whole project. Is collusion in this myth and junior participation in this project really a proper aspiration for British foreign policy? Harrowing report of massacre in Afghanistan by US bombers

On May 4 the US bombed the village of Granai in Farah province, Afghanistan, killing 140 civilians according to the Afghanistan government, including approximately 90 children.

It was the single largest loss of life caused by US/NATO forces since the 2001 invasion.

President Hamid Karzai denounced the air strikes as "unjustifiable and unacceptable," hundreds of people demonstrated in Kabul and in Farah city there was a riot outside the governor's office and traders closed their shops in protest.

The US military initially claimed the civilians had been killed by grenades hurled by Taliban fighters. These assertions were shown to be false by eyewitness accounts and were quickly withdrawn.

Afghanistan: The Dollar Line

This article was first published in Chimes of Freedom in December 2007. With the current controversy of mortalities in the occupation forces I felt it an appropriate time to re-publish it along with some small additions:

The Battle of Musa Kala is supposedly over and the city is once more in the hands of NATO forces. There has been a virtual news blackout about the manner in which the city was taken but, listening to the BBC World Service yesterday, I picked up snippets about a heavy aerial bombardment by the US Air Force, using B1 and Stealth bombers in what appeared to be a Shock & Awe blitzkrieg. Phosphorous bombs may have been used. Thousands of civilians may have been killed. We just don't know.

Nor do we know just what the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is doing in South Central Asia. It is a question that after six years still goes unanswered. If pressed, we are given vague assurances about a continued "War against Terrorism", the catch-all justification the USUK regimes give their public for just about whatever they wish to do, either domestically or abroad.

In fact the much-vaunted "War against Terrorism" is really the ongoing World War of western capitalism that replaced the Cold War, a time during which "hot" wars were exported to places like Korea and Vietnam, with the idea of "Endless War", which is really an unending war based on geostrategic needs to grab as much of the Planet's mineral resources as possible.

And in this scenario, Afghanistan, rich in Gas, Oil and Coal, sits neatly in the middle of the Great Game, currently occupied by the western economic bloc but neighboured by the opposing bloc of the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Indeed, looking at the history of US involvement in the area since the early days of its use of the Taleban as anti-Russian insurgents, it may be seen how Afghanistan has played the part of a significant chess-piece in the Great Game of geostrategic politics and war. And the entire fake operation of 911 as the window of opportunity which provided, amongst much else, the excuse for the US along with its dogged ally the UK, to occupy in perpetuo this strategic cross-roads, hence ensuring that it would never fall into the hegemony of the opposing powers.

The argument for a pipeline through Afghanistan was made before the US Congress in 1998 by John Maresca of the Unocal Oil Company in testimony to the House Sub-Committee on Asia and the Pacific:

Maresca concluded his Congressional testimony with this peroration. "Developing cost-effective, profitable and efficient export routes for Central Asia resources is a formidable, but not impossible, task. It has been accomplished before. A commercial corridor, a "new" Silk Road, can link the Central Asia supply with the demand -- once again making Central Asia the crossroads between Europe and Asia."

Gas, Oil and Afghanistan by Jon Flanders

The area includes a huge field of natural resources, predominantly Gas, Oil and Coal. Since the 'nineties the Texas-based Unocal company was negotiating with the Taleban to build pipelines south to the Arabian Gulf. But these negotiations were brought to a halt by events in a highly destabilized part of the Great Game.

Yet, even were the US oil monopolies temporarily unable to secure the required conditions to pipe the resources, they could still hold a stake in the area's oil-fields for future exploitation, particularly if the area concerned remained under US occupation. After Unocal pulled-out of the Central Asian Gas Pipeline (Centgas) the company's chief shareholder became the Saudi Arabian Delta Oil Company.

Unocal's defection did not end pipeline plans. According to the VOA's Sarah Horner "But the pipeline dreams have surfaced again. In May 2000 there were reports of discussions of the issue involving Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Iran and Turkmenistan. And the Taliban newspaper, the Kabul Times, recently reported that the mine and industries minister, Mullah Mohammed Isa Akhond, met representatives of the Central Asia-based US company, Central Asia Oil and Gas Industry. The newspaper quoted company representative, Rafiq Yadgar as saying: "Central Asia Oil and Gas Industry is ready to invest in Afghanistan in the field of oil and gas extraction and meanwhile is willing to build an gas and oil refinery in Afghanistan." He added that Turkmen authorities are ready to cooperate with his company."

Now it is the US-puppet Karzai regime which runs Afghanistan, not the Taleban. So if anyone is going to exploit Afghanistan's rich resources they would come from the western bloc, not the SCO. Hence the importance of Afghanistan remaining under the permanent occupation of the USUK and a fragmented NATO reborn as a 'Coalition of the Willing.' And why the UK Government has built in Kabul a huge, new fortified Embassy, signifying plans for a long-term occupation.

The present Bush junta represents nothing less than a coup d'état against the US people by oil interests.

As most of us know, the Bush-Cheney team that took control of the US Government in January, 2001, was heavily influenced by the oil industry. Bush himself is a veteran of a number of mostly failed oil enterprises. Condolezza Rice, Bush's assistant to the president for national security affairs, was on the board of Chevron. Vice President Dick Cheney was the CEO of Halliburton, a major player in the downstream oil industry.

The hot spot for where the business is is the Caspian.

In a column dated Thursday, August 10, 2000 in the Chicago Tribune, Marjorie Cohn, a professor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego [wrote] ... "Because of the instability in the Persian Gulf, Cheney and his fellow oilmen have zeroed in on the world's other major source of oil --the Caspian Sea. Its rich oil and gas resources are estimated at $4 trillion by US News and World Report. The Washington-based American Petroleum Institute, voice of the major US oil companies, called the Caspian region, "the area of greatest resource potential outside of the Middle East." Cheney told a gaggle of oil industry executives in 1998, "I can't think of a time when we've had a region emerge as suddenly to become as strategically significant as the Caspian." Halliburton's Caspian investments include Turkmenistan.

And in this revealing paper, written in 2001, its author goes on to note,

P.V. Vivekanand, chief editor of The Gulf Today in the United Arab Emirates sums up the pipeline picture in the Caspian/Central Asia region in this way..."There are dozens of oil and gas pipeline projects in Central Asia, some estimated to cost billions of dollars and almost all sparking transborder disputes and controversies. Most of the projects have been discussed for decades as the oil giants wait for the right political conditions to move in. Because pipelines are the best method to transport oil and gas over land, the efficiency of such a delivery system is too tempting for energy exporters and importers to let go of plans in a hurry. And for many potential exporters and pipeline hosts, the realization of such projects can mean economic survival."

and finally concludes,

I think the evidence is overwhelming. The Bush administration plans to use the WTC attack as an opportunity to use the US military as pipeline police, with the current goal of splitting the government of Pakistan and the Taliban from the Islamic militants led by Bin Laden. If they can accomplish this, and this is a big if, the way might be cleared for the Afghanistan pipeline project, and the basis for further penetration into the oil rich former Soviet republics established, as part of a general rollback of Russian influence in the Caspian and Central Asia.

Six years on we can see how this analysis has been borne out. It underscores the vital role played by the false-flag events of 911 which are now being increasingly exposed as having been a CIA-Mossad operation. And it reveals the skeleton-in-the-cupboard behind a nonsensical war, not so much against terror but of ongoing terror by the USUK-led capitalist West against the people of our Planet.

Richard Behan, in his Alternet article, The Mega-Lie called the War on Terror: A Masterpiece of Propaganda, provides a useful synopsis of events leading up to the bombing of Afghanistan.

At the final meeting with the Taliban, on Aug. 2, 2001, State Department negotiator Christine Rocca, clarified the options: "Either you accept our offer of a carpet of gold, or we bury you under a carpet of bombs." With the futility of negotiations apparent, "President Bush promptly informed Pakistan and India the U.S. would launch a military mission into Afghanistan before the end of October."

This was five weeks before the events of 9/11.

The Mega-Lie called the War on Terror: A Masterpiece of Propaganda

Afghanistan is an early example of a 21st Century Resource War. For obvious reasons the public must be kept in the dark. We have seen how in these wars the deaths of millions are just written-off as "collateral damage", of no significance in contrast to the profitable purposes to be achieved by the constant playing-out of a hell on earth. Hells which are carefully kept out of the view of consumer target audiences and where war crimes are repeated so often that the concept itself begins to seem meaningless.

All wars are ruthless. But when the very survival of the New World Order lies at stake, as it now does, we can be sure that their horror and intensity will only grow, foreshadowing a great, planetary showdown in the interests of the Dollar Line.

Britain’s propaganda offensive on behalf of Afghan war

The speech by Foreign Secretary David Miliband at the NATO headquarters in Brussels makes clear that Britain intends to deepen its collaboration with the United States in Afghanistan.

There is growing public concern that Afghanistan is fast becoming a worse and more intractable debacle than Iraq, fueling opposition to the war and demands for an exit strategy. Despite Miliband’s statement that he accepted the public “wanted to know whether and how we can succeed” in Afghanistan, he demonstrated the government’s willingness to defy anti-war sentiment and press ahead with the neo-colonial war.

"The only way to end the war is the withdrawal of foreign troops as part of a wider political settlement negotiated with all significant Afghan forces on the ground, including the Taliban – and guaranteed by regional powers and neighbouring states: Pakistan, Iran, China and India.

Such a process is bound to take place eventually – whether or not the British government has the guts to follow the example of Canada and The Netherlands and announce plans to pull out earlier.

But the assumption must be that a strategic US decision to accept the inevitable, turn its back on the wreckage of the war on terror and withdraw from Afghanistan is going to be a slow and painful process. In the meantime, many more people – mostly Afghans – will shamefully die in vain."
